TOEFL Tuesday: New Book! Official TOEFL iBT Tests Volume 2

A couple weeks ago I finally got in the mail my copy of the newest official TOEFL book, called Official TOEFL iBT Tests, Volume 2. This book actually came out in December, but it’s still pretty new!

Well, the inside is new. The cover looks exactly the same as an old book, Official TOEFL iBT Tests Volume 1. That volume number is the key difference. That means the practice tests in volume 2 are all new. Both books have five practice tests, so if you buy both books, you get a total of ten official TOEFLs, all extremely similar to what you will see on the day of your real test.

Practice for your TOEFL exam with Magoosh.

In fact, the practice tests in this book were real TOEFLs. They are from the list of TPO tests (TOEFL Practice Online), which were real TOEFL exams given in previous years. Specifically, this book contains TPO tests 9 through 13. The old book, volume 1, has TPO numbers 4 through 8.

The biggest advantage of this book is that one TPO online costs $46 at the moment, but you can get five of them in this book for $30 or less. It’s a really good deal!

Also, note that all five tests are on the DVD-rom that comes with the book. The software is similar to what you will use on your real test (although not exactly the same). So in general, this is one of the best resources for real TOEFL practice that you can buy.

Note that there are no lessons or explanations though—just practice tests and answers! If you want more explanation about how to take the test, check out That’s what we’re here for. 🙂

OK, it’s clear that the tests are different from the ones in volume 1. But are they different from the ones in the Official GUIDE to the Toefl Test fourth edition?
    Thanks a lot!

They definitely are! 🙂 These tests are all-new and completely different than any of the other practice materials offered through ETS. The test simulation software that comes with Official TOEFL iBT Tests volume 2 is also more updated than the software for the current edition of the Official Guide.

Happy to help, Kemisola. I’m told that a lot of Nigerian booksellers in bigger cities have TOEFL books. And of course, a lot of online booksellers carry TOEFL too. But for the quickest access, you can instantly purchase the ebook version of Official TOEFL iBT Tests Vol. 2. (That link allows you to get the book directly from the ETS website for 23USD)

There is some good news for anyone who isn’t able to get a Magoosh TOEFL Premium subscription. We have tons of free resources right here on the Magoosh TOEFL Blog. Kemisola, you may especially want to check out our index of TOEFL Reading support. You can also get free personal feedback and support through Magoosh’s recommended TOEFL forums.

I’m honestly not all that familiar with that book. To my knowledge, there are no plans to review that book at this time. But I’ll check with Lucas on that.
