5 Things That Are Ruining Your Praxis Practice

Practice makes perfect. But if you’re doing one of the following, you could be ruining your Praxis practice without knowing it. Make sure that you’re well prepared for the exam and that your Praxis practice is as effective as possible by knowing what the things ruining your Praxis practice are and how to overcome them.

Distractions

You can’t study for a few minutes followed by 10 minutes of perusing Facebook, SnapChat, Instagram, or other social media platforms. On top of turning off technology, you need to limit distractions around you. Find a quiet place with an environment that is conducive to studying. Make your Praxis practice the focus rather than attempting to multitask.

Plan regular study breaks. For example, after 45 minutes of focusing on your studies, you could do something different for 15 minutes. Find a schedule that allows you to get the most from your Praxis practice sessions.

Cramming

While working toward your bachelor’s degree, you may have spent many nights cramming for exams. You may have aced the exam, but at what cost? Did you really learn the material? Do you remember the material after turning in the exam?

If you’re trying to cover all of the Praxis exam content in a short period of time, it’s going to be very difficult to remember everything. It’s also going to be difficult to learn everything. Instead, try revisiting the information on a regular basis. You’ll find that you retain the information more effectively, understand the concepts better, and have less stress to manage.

Ineffective Study Methods

Some study methods are more effective than others. It’s important to find the method that works best for you. Some ineffective methods include highlighting reading material, re-reading textbooks, and summarizing books. These methods are considered ineffective because they don’t require much thought. Instead, try one of these methods:

  • Enlist a study buddy or join a study group
  • Create flashcards
  • Complete practice exams
  • Look for relations and connections

Use your available resources to make the most of your study sessions and find a method that works for you.

Wrong Focus

What are you studying? You should have created a study plan to determine what you’ll study during each study session. Don’t spend too much time on the information that you already know. However, it would be wise to revisit the information before the exam. Be sure that everything is fresh on your mind when you take the Praxis.

Sacrificing Your Health

Between classes, homework, work, and other obligations, it’s difficult to fit study time into your schedule. To fit it in, however, don’t sacrifice your sleep or work out time. To improve the effectiveness of your Praxis practice, get plenty of rest, exercise regularly, and eat a healthy diet.

If you’re doing any of these things that could be ruining your Praxis practice, now is the time to make a change. Do what you need to do to improve the effectiveness of your practice. With more effective Praxis practice, you’ll be better prepared for the exam and more likely to pass it. Good luck!
