The GMAT costs $275 when registering for the in-person exam and $300 when registering for the online exam in many countries, including the US and India. However, there are other GMAT exam fees to consider, such as fees for rescheduling or canceling your exam, as well as ordering additional score reports. Additionally, if you retake the GMAT, you’ll have to pay the registration fee once again.
In short, the total cost of taking the GMAT can quickly add up! Use the calculator below to estimate how much the GMAT will cost you in US dollars (USD) or Indian Rupees (INR).

Keep in mind that those are just the potential fees involved for taking the GMAT once. Many students end up retaking the GMAT to boost their scores.
❗All of the GMAT exam fees depend on your location. The information in the table above and throughout this article is for the United States and also India.
If you’re taking the GMAT in another country, be sure to check the GMAT official website for information specific to your locale.
GMAT Rescheduling Fees
Ideally, you’ll sign up to take the GMAT on your preferred date, and everything will go according to plan. However, that’s not always how life plays out, so you may have to reschedule.
Be aware that rescheduling the exam always has a fee associated with it, and it varies depending on how quickly you reschedule. Here’s what you can expect to pay for either format of the test based on when your appointment is:
- Rescheduling at 60+ days: $55 for in-person, $60 for online
- Rescheduling at 15-60 days: $110 for in-person, $120 for online
- Rescheduling at 1-14 days: $165 for in-person, $180 for online
You cannot reschedule the GMAT within 24 hours of the test date. If you don’t show up for your exam, your account history will instead register a “no-show.” Note that this will not be sent to schools in your score report, however.
The Cost of Canceling Your GMAT Exam
You can also cancel your GMAT exam up to 1 day before your test date. However, you will only get back a portion of your initial registration fee. Once again, the amount you’ll be refunded depends the format of the exam you registered for and how soon you act before your appointment:
- Canceling at 60+ days: a refund of $110 for in-person, $120 for online
- Canceling at 15-60 days: a refund of $80 for in-person, $90 for online
- Canceling at 1-14 days: a refund of $55 for in-person, $60 for online
In other words, here are the fees you’ll have paid in if you register for the GMAT and then cancel:
- Canceling at 60+ days: $165 for in-person, $180 for online
- Canceling at 15-60 days: $195 for in-person, $210 for online
- Canceling at 1-14 days: $220 for in-person, $240 for online
Those are all hefty fines! Sometimes canceling is unavoidable, and you just have to eat the cost. But if you can plan ahead and prevent that outcome, you’ll save quite a bit of money.
GMAT Score Report Fees
The good news is that GMAC (the creators of the GMAT) allows you to send up to five score reports for free within the 48 hours after you receive your official test score on MBA.com.
However, sending any additional score report will cost you $35. This is the case whether you took the online version of the exam or the in-person version at a test center. All of these additional reports are non-refundable, so make sure you’re only sending your scores to the schools that need them.
Cost to Retake the GMAT
You may retake the GMAT once every 16 calendar days, but no more than 5 times in a rolling 12-month period (but let’s be real, taking the GMAT 5 times would not be ideal anyway!). This will likely not come as a surprise, but there are no discounts for taking the test again. You pay full price each and every time you take the GMAT.
💡 To improve your chances of not needing to retake the exam and thereby saving some money, be sure to give yourself ample time to study and to follow a GMAT study schedule.
Additional GMAT Exam Fees
There are some low-frequency cases that involve additional fees as well. For instance, if you choose to pay by phone you will be charged an additional $10 or so (again, fees can vary by location, especially when a currency other than USD is in play). So, if you have easy access to the internet, be sure to register online to save some money!
Reinstate Your Score Fee – No More!
Lastly, a fee that thankfully no longer exists is the one to “reinstate your score.” It used to be the case that sending your test score to a business school involved sending all of the scores you ever had. To prevent that situation, you could cancel a specific test’s scores. However, if you later changed your mind, you’d have to pay a fee to reactivate those scores.
Nowadays, cancelling your score is not even an option. Whenever you send score reports now, you only send the scores from a single exam. Thus, you have control over which schools see which specific scores.
💡 Looking to reduce some of your GMAT costs? You may be eligible for a GMAT Fee Waiver, depending which business schools you’re applying to.
GMAT Prep Materials
While most of the GMAT cost comes from GMAC directly, you’ll also want to buy some reputable prep materials! Keep in mind that the range of materials is enormous. A full, in-person course will run you thousands of dollars. Something more self-guided will certainly decrease your prep investment.
To maximize your prep with video lessons, practice questions, tests, and more, we recommend checking out an affordable Magoosh GMAT Premium Plan.
Best of luck in your GMAT preparation journey!
