GMAT Tuesdays: Active Reading – Author’s Opinion and Tone

Finding the author’s opinion and tone is not easy. The passages on the GMAT won’t contain authors openly stating how they feel.

To discover their true purpose and their true inclinations, we have to pay attention to the subtleties of word choice. We need to pay close attention to the connotation of the words used and to consider all the other words the author didn’t use when writing. Dive into this weeks video to learn more.

Hi, Are these strategies also applicable for GRE passages?

      Hi Hassan!

Great question 😀 Yes, the active reading strategies that Kevin goes over are definitely applicable to the GRE reading passages, as well as to reading you do outside of your test prep. Paying attention to the author’s tone and word choice will enrich your overall understanding of passages, articles, and book, regardless of what you’re reading 🙂

    Hi Kvin,

can you please mark a reference to other editions of OG (12) /Verbal reviews(2nd Ed)?

      Hi Isha,

I’ll do my best to find the questions in previous guide books. 😀 For this passage, it’s the same questions for OG 12. The passage associated with question 120-127 is the same passage. I don’t think you will find this passage in the Verbal review, though. 😀

      Happy Studying!
