Check Out Free Options for a Math Tutor

There are several ways to access free tutoring, which may be worth looking into in your area. For starters, talk to your child’s teacher. It’s possible that the teacher would have time before or after school or even during recess to work with your child. If the teacher isn’t available, check your local library, college, or community center. Oftentimes, these places provide free tutoring to help those in the community.

Talk to Other Parents

If you choose to hire a tutor for one-on-one services, start by talking to other parents, teachers, or school counselors. Word-of-mouth is a great way to find tutors! Other parents are typically happy to tell you what they liked or didn’t like about a particular tutor. This can help you weed people out, saving you time and money in the process.

Peruse Community Bulletin Boards

Libraries, community centers, and even grocery stores often have bulletin boards where people can advertise their services. Check these boards to find out if there is a math tutor available in the area. Once you’ve selected a person to hire, take the time to do a background check and call references before making your final decision.

Use Websites

There are a few websites that can help you find local tutors. For example, Wyzant asks you to answer a few questions about the tutoring subject, available times, and the meetup location. Then, it gives you a list of available tutors from which to choose. Find a website that can help you find local tutors in your area that will be a good fit for your child.

Try Online Tutoring Services

If you can’t find someone to meet in-person or if you simply prefer online tutoring, there are several websites dedicated to setting up online tutors with students in need. Some of the websites you can try include Chegg, Tutor, or Varsity Tutors.

Don’t be afraid to try out a math tutor, or to make a change if you feel it’s not working for your child. It’s important to find someone who will be a good fit to help your child learn the needed math skills to excel.

You made a great point about talking to other parents who have used a tutor for their kids and how they worked. My husband and I are looking for a private math tutor that can help our son get his grade in math up. We will keep these tips in mind as we search for a professional that can help us best.
