6 JEE Mains Preparation Tips for Gap After Board Exams

At the time from around January to March, the class 12 board exam appearing students tend to focus more on their board exams. After all, board exams are also important as they would determine your eligibility to get an admission in an IIT, NIT, IIIT, and CFTI. But during this period, you should not neglect your JEE Mains preparation. Not paying attention towards your JEE Mains preparation during this time may even cost you your JEE Mains rank! In this post, I’ll give you some tips that will help you to continue your JEE Mains preparation along with your board examination preparation, and after your board exams are over.

JEE Mains preparation along with Board exam preparation

A large part of the syllabus of board exams and the JEE Mains is common. The questions asked in the JEE Mains exams are just a slightly difficult version of the questions asked in the board exams. Hence, if you have prepared well for the JEE Mains, preparing for the board exams won’t be troublesome for you.

During this time, you can take some JEE Mains mock tests in sittings of three hours each, whenever you get time. You can also solve previous years’ JEE Mains actual question papers. Solving papers in three-hour sittings would make you habitual of taking three hours long exams.

JEE Mains preparation after Board exams are over

The gap between the Board exams and the JEE Mains exam is not very big, but yet it is crucial. During this time, you should turn your beast mode on and study voraciously. I have mentioned some JEE Mains preparation tips below that you should follow during the gap between the Board exams and the JEE Mains exam.

JEE Mains preparation Tip-1: Do not study anything new

Studying new topics during the gap between the Board exams and the JEE Mains exam is highly discouraged. If you study new topics during this time, your confidence may go down — which could have disastrous consequences. Confidence plays a great role in your performance in the JEE Mains exam. Hence, you should try not to do anything during this period that can damage your confidence level.

JEE Mains preparation Tip-2: Revise, Revise, and Revise

You should dedicate most of this time in revision. The revision that you do during this period is as important as your entire JEE Mains preparation is! During this time, you should revise all the important topics first, and then you should move on to revising the less important topics. However, you should realize that if you want to secure a very good rank in JEE Mains, you should study all the topics as if each of them is equally important.

Inorganic Chemistry is the subject that bothers many JEE aspirants. This branch of Chemistry requires majorly rote learning and tests your memorization ability. However, there are some interesting concepts in Inorganic Chemistry too. This subject would play a key role in determining your JEE Mains rank as many JEE aspirants don’t pay much attention to it, which is a very bad practice. If you are well-versed with this subject, you will have a great advantage. Try to dedicate several hours each day for Inorganic Chemistry revision.

You should also revise the solutions of the problems of all the topics that you found difficult when you studied the topics for the first time. This will help you revise all the important tricks involved in solving those problems.

JEE Mains preparation Tip-3: Make some changes in lifestyle

The JEE Mains exam is conducted during the day time. Hence if you are a night owl who sleeps during the day, you could be in trouble if you do nothing about it. If 9:30 am to 12:30 pm is not the time when your efficiency is maximum, you should make some changes in your lifestyle to ensure that you feel fresh during the JEE Mains exam and perform your best.

Some lifestyle changes that can help you perform your best during the JEE Mains exam are mentioned below:

  • Early to bed and early to rise — follow this rule religiously.
  • If you love your bed-table, you should refrain from using it anymore and rather study on a proper table and chair. After all, you won’t get a bed-table in the exam hall.
  • If you have a habit of listening music while studying, curb it gradually.
  • Sleep for at least 7 hours daily. Getting adequate sleep is very important for being fresh throughout the day, which is in turn very important for good efficiency.
  • If you have a habit of taking a nap in the afternoon, get rid of it! Try not to sleep during the day at all, and sleep early at night.

JEE Mains preparation Tip-4: Mimic exam conditions during the revision time

Try to make your revision sessions of three hours each. During this time, do not get up for anything — not even for drinking water! Ask your family members to not disturb you at this time. Stay away from all distractions during this time.

JEE Mains preparation Tip-5: Take mock tests

Try to take at least one JEE Mains mock test in every two days. Taking mock test would help you not lose your practice of giving three hours long tests efficiently in one sitting.

JEE Mains preparation Tip-6: Shoot up your study hours

During this time, the serious candidates study a lot. Some students even study up to 16 hours a day! To be competent, you need to increase your study hours and study as much as you can!
