What is the JEE Main Aptitude Test?

JEE Main conducts two exams every year – Paper 1 and Paper 2. The Paper 1 is the entrance test for engineering courses and the Paper 2 is held for architecture and planning courses in IITs and other central colleges offering these courses. The JEE Main aptitude test takes place in the afternoon slot, just after a small break following the JEE Main exam. If you’re planning to appear for the JEE Main Paper 2, here is all that you need to know about the JEE Main aptitude test!

Pattern and eligibility for JEE Main Paper 2

For Paper 2, the eligibility criteria is same as that of the JEE Main, which is scoring a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in board exams, or being in the top 20% of the students of that board, apart from the general age eligibility criteria. The ranks given to the candidates are not linked with the board exam scores in any way according to the latest pattern.

There are 30 objective questions in part 1 of the JEE Main Paper 2, which are from Mathematics. Part 2 of the JEE Main Paper 2 is the Aptitude Test and contains 50 objective questions. The drawing test takes place in a separate sheet and consists of 2 questions. Thus, at the end of the exam students are required to submit two sheets – one is the answer sheet and the second one is the drawing sheet.

Results and Counseling process

The results of the JEE Main aptitude test are not released along with JEE Main Paper 1 and are rather released one month later, somewhere in the last week of May.

The counseling for JEE Main Paper 2 and JEE Main engineering exam (Paper 1) is conducted together by JoSAA. Around 9 NITs and some other colleges fill their architecture and planning seats through the JEE Main aptitude test.

The counseling procedure starts in the middle of June and the results of the first round are released in last week of June. With the first round, the acceptance of seats begins and the subsequent rounds take place in a similar manner. The counseling procedure is exactly same for both JEE Main Paper 1 and Paper 2.

This exam too involves a lot of competition since the students taking the exam outnumber seats available by a good margin. Prepare hard if you want to ace this exam. All the best!
