JEE Main Rank

Until 2016, the JEE Main rank gave 60% weightage to the JEE Main score and 40% weightage to the class 12 board results. However, in 2017, only the JEE Main score counted in the calculation.

The JEE Main All-India ranks were allotted to candidates in decreasing order of their aggregate scores. However in case of a tie, (i.e., if multiple candidates had the same aggregate score), the following tie-breaker mechanism decided the rank (in the given order):

  • The candidate who scored higher marks in Mathematics got a better rank
  • Whoever scored higher marks in Physics got a better rank
  • The candidate who had the higher absolute value of the ratio of positive marks to negative marks got a better rank
  • If a tie still persisted, the candidates received the same JEE Main rank
