The much awaited JEE Main 2017 results were declared on the 27th of April, 2017, by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The results indicate your marks, your All-India rank, the cutoff marks to qualify for taking the JEE Advanced exam, and your qualifying status for the JEE Advanced exam 2017.

Cutoff Marks for Appearing in JEE Advanced 2017

JEE Main Exam Structure and Marking Scheme
- JEE Main (Paper 1) exam consisted of a total of 90 questions
- Each subject (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) was allotted 30 questions
- Correct answers were awarded 4 marks
- Wrong answers carried a penalty of -1 marks
- An unanswered question was awarded 0 marks
- Filling up more than 1 response to any question was treated as a wrong answer and marks were deducted accordingly
- The total marks of JEE Main of the exam were 360
JEE Main Rank
Until 2016, the JEE Main rank gave 60% weightage to the JEE Main score and 40% weightage to the class 12 board results. However, in 2017, only the JEE Main score counted in the calculation.
The JEE Main All-India ranks were allotted to candidates in decreasing order of their aggregate scores. However in case of a tie, (i.e., if multiple candidates had the same aggregate score), the following tie-breaker mechanism decided the rank (in the given order):
- The candidate who scored higher marks in Mathematics got a better rank
- Whoever scored higher marks in Physics got a better rank
- The candidate who had the higher absolute value of the ratio of positive marks to negative marks got a better rank
- If a tie still persisted, the candidates received the same JEE Main rank
How to Check Your JEE Mains Result?
You can check your JEE Main result by following these steps:
- Visit the official site of the JEE Main 2017 results by CBSE
- Enter your roll number and date of birth
- Click on “Submit” button to view your result
- You may also save the soft copy of the results or take its printout
JEE Main 2017 Scorecard
You can download your JEE Main scorecard from the official site of JEE Main results. You need the scorecard for JEE Main counselling, so it is important to keep it with you during the entire admissions process.
Also, the CBSE is not dispatching scorecards by post this year. So it is important to download your scorecard from the official website itself.
The scorecard contains details such as your name, category, roll number, marks obtained, state rank, and All-India rank.
JEE Main 2017 Result Statistics
Around 1.2 million candidates appeared for the JEE Main 2017 exam. Out of this, approximately 0.22 million candidates qualify for taking the JEE Advanced 2017 exam.
The total number of institutes that participate in the seat allocation conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) is 92.
- 23 are Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian School of Mines (ISM),
- 20 are Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs),
- 31 are National Institutes of Technology (NITs),and
- 18 are other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs)
The allocation of a total of 34,895 seats is done by JoSAA.
After Viewing Your JEE Main Results
If you obtain marks greater than your category cutoff, congrats! You are eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced 2017!
Admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs is based on your JEE Main 2017 All-India Rank if:
- you secure a minimum of 75% marks in your class 12 board examination,
- you are in the top 20 percentile of students in your class 12 board examination.

Qualifying for JEE Main Counselling
If you qualify for admission into an NIT, IIIT, and GFTI, you can participate in the JEE Main 2017 counselling conducted by the JoSAA. The counselling takes place online and is comprised of 6 rounds.
The JEE Main counselling consists of 5 steps:
- Online registration
- Online choice filling and locking
- Seat allotment
- Seat acceptance and fee payment
- Reporting to the final allocated institute
