With six months to prepare, you’ve got plenty of time to space out your studying. You should dedicate 1–2 hours a day, 3-4 days a week to study over the next six months. Use this six-month LSAT study plan as your guide to make the most of your study time.

Quick note: Your LSAT score is one of the most important factors in law school admissions— so be sure you give yourself sufficient time to study. If you don’t have enough time to dedicate to studying over the next six months, you may want to consider signing up for a later LSAT date to allow yourself adequate time to prepare.

If you have the time to prepare over the next six months, this LSAT study schedule will help you get the most out of your studying. The schedule is laid out for you week-by-week and includes primary goals and a gameplan for each week. The game plan sets out which Magoosh lessons to watch, the estimated time for each group of lessons, and when to take practice exams and do practice problems.

You’ll notice there’s less work assigned during the weeks you are scheduled to take practice exams. The plan is designed this way so that you devote your study time that week to taking the practice test and thoroughly reviewing the answers. This will help you get the most out of this six-month LSAT study plan.

First Month

Your first month of studying during the six-month LSAT study schedule will focus on building your LSAT foundation. You’ll learn the basic strategies for each of the three LSAT sections, and you’ll take your first practice test to assess your strengths and weaknesses.

Week 1

Primary Goals

  • Register for the exam!
  • Take a diagnostic exam to determine your starting point.
  • Set out your study schedule.

Game Plan

  • Take a practice LSAT under test-like conditions, ideally in a quiet space where you’ll have at least three hours of uninterrupted time.
  • Watch the Scoring and Goal Setting Lesson after your diagnostic exam to get a better understanding of your score. If you haven’t already, set a goal score. Then, score your exam to determine your strongest and weakest areas.
  • Whatever you do, don’t worry about your score at this point! This step will simply help you identify your weaker areas, which you can label your “areas for improvement.” These sections are where you’ll focus your efforts and see your greatest point gains.
  • Determine your study schedule. You should study for at least 1-2 hours, 3-4 days a week. Schedule your study time on your calendar now and put your goal score and dream school at the top. Keep that motivation front and center.

Weeks 2 & 3

Primary Goals

  • Begin learning the Magoosh strategies.
  • Complete 5-6 hours of practice problems.
  • Start reviewing Magoosh flashcards for 30 minutes every other day.

Game Plan

  • View the following Magoosh lessons to understand the basic structure and approach to each of the three sections of the LSAT:

     

  • Aim for one hour of practice problems and at least six hours of reviewing the answers these two weeks. Be sure to practice questions from each section, but don’t worry about timing yet. (You’ll develop your pacing skills in Weeks 5 & 6.)
  • Complete practice problems for every section, placing special emphasis on your weaker area(s). Every other day, complete at least two, timed sections from the Magoosh practice problems, and always include one from your weakest area.
  • Study your Magoosh flashcards at least 30 minutes every other day! Keep reviewing the if-then statement cards. If-then reasoning is key to Logical Reasoning and to Logic Games, which means it’s essential to improving your LSAT score. Also, add in the Transitional Language cards this week. These cards will help you on both Reading Comprehension and Logical Reasoning.

Week 4

Primary Goals

  • Learn new Logic Game types and Logical Reasoning question types.
  • Continue learning Magoosh strategies through individual practice problems.

Game Plan

  • Watch Magoosh lessons to set up your foundation for each of the LSAT sections. This week you’ll want to watch:
  • Score your results and take the time to review all of your answers. Remember, only by reviewing the answer choices can you understand why you got an answer right or wrong. That information is crucial to improving your score. You’ve got to know how you got to the right answer so you can repeat that approach on the real LSAT!
  • Study your Magoosh flashcards at least 30 minutes every other day!


 

Second Month

Congrats, you’re through with your first month of LSAT prep! By this point, you should have learned the basic Magoosh-recommended strategies, and completed and scored one full length practice test.

To evaluate the progress you’ve made, your second month will end with a full-length practice test. Your goal now is to focus on improving your speed and accuracy so you can crush the LSAT!

Week 5 & 6

Primary Goals

  • Develop your pacing skills
  • Learn another Logic Game type
  • Learn key Logical Reasoning question types: Strengthen and Weaken questions

Game Plan

  • Learn Magoosh pacing strategies by reading Intro to LSAT Pacing and watching the Pacing Strategy lessons for Logic Games and Logical Reasoning. By now you’ve got the essential approaches down for each section, so at this point you need to develop your speed to earn more points on each section. The Magoosh pacing strategies will help you feel confident moving at a faster speed through problem sets.
  •  

  • Watch Magoosh lessons to set up your foundation for each of the LSAT sections. This week you’ll want to watch:

     

  • Take three timed practice sections in a row each day—you can either do one of each section of the LSAT or do two sections of a type that you want to focus on this week. Taking three sections in a row will help you increase your stamina for test day. When everyone else is fading, you’ll still be going strong!

Weeks 7 & 8

Primary Goals

  • Assess progress with second practice LSAT from the 10 Actual, Official LSAT Preptests.
  • Review your second practice exam—the answers you got right and the ones you got wrong.

Game Plan

  • Schedule a long block of time and take your second practice test. Score your test and thoroughly review all the answers. You should see some improvement at this point from your first and second tests. If not, evaluate how much time you have dedicated to studying and ensure you can dedicate the same–if not more–in the last two months of your studying.

  • Watch Magoosh lessons on logic. This week take time to watch:

     

  • Study your Magoosh flashcards at least 30 minutes a day!


 

Third Month

Weeks 9 & 10

Primary Goals

  • Learn new Logic Game type and new question types for Logical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension.
  • Practice new strategies through timed practice.

Weeks 11 & 12

Primary Goals

  • Continue mastering and learning new Magoosh strategies.
  • Focus on perfecting your pacing through timed practice.

Fourth Month

Congrats! You’re halfway through with your LSAT studying. If you’ve missed any lessons, now’s the time to go back and watch. While three months may sound like a long time between you and the LSAT, it’s going to go by quickly. So, get caught up and ready to move forward with your prep!

Weeks 13 & 14

Primary Goals

  • Assess progress with third practice LSAT from the 10 Actual, Official LSAT Preptests.
  • Watch Magoosh lessons on logic.
  • Visit your selected test center!

Game Plan

  • Schedule a long block of time and take your third practice test. Score your test and thoroughly review all the answers. You should see some improvement at this point from your second test. (If you’re still not seeing any improvement and you think you’d have more time to study at a later date, consider rescheduling your LSAT.)
  •  

  • This week is really all about taking and reviewing this practice test—don’t skimp on the review! Make sure you go over all of the questions you got right and wrong. Really dig in so you understand why.
  •  

  • Watch Magoosh lessons on logical reasoning. This week make sure to view:

     

  • If you already know where you’ll be testing, take a little trip to your selected test center. If you can, get inside and poke around. Try and feel it out and plan to return at another time.
  •  

  • Study your Magoosh flashcards—think we forgot about this one?—at least 30 minutes every other a day!

Week 15 & 16

Primary Goals

  • Learn and practice new Logic Game types and Reading Comprehension question types.
  • Watch final conditional logic lessons.

Sixth Month

Your primary focus during your last month of prep will be building your stamina by taking full-length practice exams. You’ll also focus on reviewing test day strategies and tips to make sure you are as ready as possible for test day.

  • Assess progress with fifth practice LSAT from the 10 Actual, Official LSAT Preptests.

Game Plan

  • Schedule a block of time and take your fourth practice test. This is your second-to-last exam for this six-month LSAT study plan! As you’ve been doing, score your test and take the time to review all the answers.
  •  

  • Like the other practice test weeks, this week is really all about continuing to refine your skills on a full-length exam. Put yourself in test-like conditions and act like it’s test day. Get a good night’s rest, eat a good breakfast, focus on your pacing, and execute.
  •  

  • Review those answers. If you’re consistently missing questions on a particular question type or section of the LSAT, target your practice tese two weeks on those areas. You’ve still got time to improve your score on your weaker areas!
  •

Week 22 & 23

Primary Goals

  • Assess progress with two additional practice LSATs from the 10 Actual, Official LSAT Preptests.

Game Plan

  • Schedule a block of time and take your a practice test. This is your second-to-last exam for this six-month LSAT study plan! As you’ve been doing, score your test and take the time to review all the answers.
  •  

  • Like the other practice test weeks, this week is really all about continuing to refine your skills on a full-length exam. Put yourself in test-like conditions and act like it’s test day. Get a good night’s rest, eat a good breakfast, focus on your pacing, and execute.
  •  

  • Review those answers.
  •  

  • Repeat. Repeat this whole process. Schedule another block of time, take a full-length practice test, and then take the time to review all of the answers. No doubt you’re tired but the good news is that this is your last practice test!

Week 24

The final week of study is here! It’s hard to believe the six-month LSAT study schedule is coming to a close!

Primary Goals

  • Continue sharpening your skills.
  • Relax and get ready for test day.
  • Be confident in your preparation—you have worked incredibly hard!

Game Plan

  • Complete two timed sections a day for two days early in the week. Spend time reviewing your responses. The purpose of this exercise is to keep your brain fresh—conserve your energy for the day of the test!
  •  

  • Final Day of Study: First, GREAT JOB! You’ve put in a lot of hard work going through this six-month LSAT study plan. Your last task is to read through One Day Till the LSAT and check off everything on the list to prepare for tomorrow. Then, relax. Get outside. Watch a movie. The most important thing you can do now is let your brain relax. Get some good sleep so you can do your best tomorrow!
