Hi Everyone! I’m Myka Yamasaki and I am a new high school blogger for Magoosh! I am very excited to be here as prior to this I have just been hanging out way too much with my cat.
Just for some background on me, I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I love living here but I am preparing myself to move down to SoCal for college. I will be attending Occidental College where President Obama attended for two years.
In high school, I was a committed debater and plan on coaching for my high school come this fall because I love the activity so much! Being a policy debater has made me a quick thinker, a productive researcher, and has helped me foster my love of learning new ideas. (Nerd Alert!)
I was also heavily involved in my high school’s tutoring program, where we went to underfunded middle schools in the city of Oakland and tutored students. There I discovered the value of education and how there is a need to make it more accessible. This point brings me to exactly why I am excited to be working for Magoosh.
The Magoosh blog is here for anyone who wants to improve their grades, raise their standardized test scores, and find the college that is the best fit for them. You won’t need to worry about paying for fancy personal tutors and consultants. I know for a lot of people such services are an unaffordable luxury.
So here I am hoping to join this group of people who want to help you succeed. I plan on sharing anything and everything that I’ve learned from being a high schooler for four years, taking the SAT and ACT, and going through the college admissions process.
