In this video, we’ll cover indirect objects.

 

What is an indirect object?

The indirect object describes the recipient of the direct object.

 

Examples of indirect objects

To find the indirect object in a sentence, you first need to find the direct object. Here’s an example:

He hit the ball to Mary. 

The verb is “hit” and the subject is “he.” What did he hit? He hit the ball – that’s our direct object, the ball. Who is receiving the ball (or the direct object) in this sentence? Mary. That means Mary is the indirect object.

Can you find the indirect object in the following sentence?

Mary sold Tom some lemonade.
