What is a prepositional phrase?
A prepositional phrase is a group of words with a preposition (basically, it’s a phrase with a preposition). A preposition is a word that connects nouns or pronouns (examples: above, across, below).
Examples of prepositional phrases
Here’s an example sentence with a prepositional phrase:
Tom jogged through the park.
The two nouns in this sentence are “Tom” and “park.” What word is connecting these two nouns? Through. This means that our preposition is “through.” Our prepositional phrase is this sentence is “through the park.”
