Basic Information<\/strong><\/p>\n How to Take the TOEFL In…<\/strong><\/p>\n How to Take TOEFL Everywhere Else<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n Wherever you are on the planet, certain things are true about taking the TOEFL.<\/p>\n You will likely be taking the TOEFL for school admissions or immigration.<\/strong> For those purposes, there are two formats of the TOEFL that might be available to you: the TOEFL iBT and the TOEFL PBT. Some countries offer both iBT and PBT, although most countries offer TOEFL iBT only. In rare instances, only the TOEFL iBT is available within a nation.<\/p>\n Fees can vary, depending on where you take the test.<\/strong> $190 USD is the average fee for the TOEFL, but you may pay a different amount in your own country. And of course, the value of a local country’s money can rise and fall against the dollar.<\/p>\n You can register for the TOEFL online, or over the phone, or by mail.<\/strong> If you register by mail, ETS will need to receive your completed TOEFL registration form<\/a> at least 4 weeks before your test date. Online and phone registry only needs to be completed 7 days before the test date.<\/p>\n The online TOEFL registration page is the same for almost every country in the world.<\/strong> With rare exceptions, this is the online TOEFL registration page<\/a> you will need to use in most countries.<\/p>\n In contrast, the phone number or mailing address for TOEFL registration is different in different parts of the world.<\/strong> Some countries have their own TOEFL registration phone lines and offices. Other nations share a regional phone number and postal address for contacting the TOEFL.<\/p>\n You will also need to show some kind of identification document when you register for the TOEFL.<\/strong> Then, once you actually arrive at the test center, you’ll need to present a personal ID. Here again, requirements differ a bit by country.<\/p>\n However, all around the world, the TOEFL will expect to see an original copy of an up-to-date photo ID. Moreover, the name on your test center ID will need to match the name on the ID you used when you originally registered. (See the TOEFL’s main ID document requirements page<\/a> for details.)<\/p>\n Below, we’ll look at the basics of how to register for the TOEFL in a number of “major” TOEFL countries where many international students come from. Nations will be listed by continent or region.
