In fact, the meaning can change completely, depending on context and emotion. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are two basic meanings of \u201cit\u201d in the phrase: <\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201ccorrect\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201call\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But realistically, there are more than two uses. Let\u2019s look at three of the most important uses. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"TOEFL Tuesday: Vocabulary &quot;That&#039;s it!&quot;\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kvAFl7rTFDk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meaning 1: \u201cThat\u2019s correct!\u201d<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Imagine I\u2019m trying to remember the name of the actor who plays Luke Skywalker in Star Wars. I don\u2019t know it, but then my friend says \u201cwas it Mark Hamill?\u201d Then I would say \u201cthat\u2019s it!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are a few contexts when we use this. Let\u2019s look at a few:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If somebody says something correct, and we want to agree.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If we remember something we had trouble remembering.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If we want to encourage somebody who is doing something good to continue.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meaning 2: \u201cNo more!\u201d<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though our \u00a0first meaning was very positive, this one is very negative. We use it to show we are angry, and we want something to stop. In this case, \u201cit\u201d means \u201call\u201d: in other words, all of the action happened. There will be no more, because it is all finished. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, for example, if I am tired of junk mail coming to my email address, maybe I would decide to start a new email account. And when I made that decision, I might say \u201cThat\u2019s it! I\u2019m not using this email address any more.\u201d But imagine that in a frustrated voice; the emotion behind the words is key!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meaning 3: \u201cOnly that\u201d<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In this case \u201cit\u201d has the same general meaning as in number 2 above (\u201call\u201d), but the usage is very different. This way of saying \u201cthat\u2019s it\u201d isn\u2019t angry, and it\u2019s not trying to stop something. It only means that there isn\u2019t any more. We say it at the end of a short list, for example. Answer this question: What do you need to bring with you to your TOEFL? The official answer may be \u201conly a photo ID\u201d\u2014or you could say \u201ca photo ID, and that\u2019s it!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, to be honest you should bring more on test day! In particular, bring a small, sugary drink and a quick snack. It helps you to stay energized on the test if you get a little bit of food in the middle. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And that\u2019s it for this week\u2019s TOEFL Tuesday!
