To review, here are the rules for using \u201cany\u201d and \u201csome\u201d:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rule 1: <\/strong>\u201c<strong>Any<\/strong>\u201d can only be used in negative statements containing the word \u201cnot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>Example of the rule:<\/p>\n<p><\/em>This blog post does<em>n\u2019t<\/em> teach <strong>anything<\/strong> about TOEFL scoring. <em>(This is correct.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This blog post teaches <strong>anything<\/strong> about TOEFL scoring. \u00a0<em>(Without the word \u201cnot,\u201d the statement becomes positive, but \u201c<strong>anything<\/strong>\u201d can only be used in negative statements. This sentence is incorrect.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rule 2:<\/strong> \u201c<strong>Some<\/strong>\u201d can only be used in positive statements that lack the word \u201cnot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><em>Example of the rule:<\/p>\n<p><\/em>This blog post is being read by <strong>someone<\/strong>. <em>(Correct.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This blog post is not being read by <strong>someone<\/strong>. <em>(With the word \u201cnot\u201d added, the statement becomes negative, but \u201c<strong>someone<\/strong>\u201d should be used in positive statements only.
