How to Reschedule Your TOEFL

Sometimes, plans change. Maybe you don’t feel ready to take the TOEFL, maybe you’re incredibly sick, or maybe something came up and you’re no longer able to make it to your scheduled TOEFL date. What do you need to know about rescheduling your TOEFL? Find out in this post!

How to Reschedule Your TOEFL

You can only reschedule online or by phone. You cannot reschedule by mail, email or at the test center.

If you want to reschedule online, you’ll need to log in to your TOEFL iBT account, click on “View Order(s)” on your home page, and click “Modify” on the Order Summary page.

If you’d prefer to reschedule by phone, you can find the phone number from your testing center here. You will need to provide your registration number and full name to reschedule the test date.

How much does it cost?

There is a $60 fee to reschedule, and this must be paid before you can register for a new date.

When do I need to reschedule by?

You have up to 4 full days before your test to change your test date.

Is it cheaper to reschedule or to cancel?

Here’s what ETS has to say about a cancellation fee:

If you cancel your registration before the four-day deadline, you will be refunded half of the original test fee you paid. No refunds are given for other services.

The registration fees vary by country (you can find your country’s fee here), but in the US, the fee is $190. So, if you cancel your date altogether, you’ll lose $95. If you reschedule, you’ll have to pay $60. In the US, that means it is much cheaper to reschedule than to cancel, but this will vary by country!

Should you reschedule or cancel?

Since it’s cheaper in most countries to reschedule, this is a better option if you know for certain that you do want to take the test. However, if your plans changed so much that you no longer need to take the TOEFL, then of course you should cancel. 🙂
