So there could be 2 boys and 5 girls, 20 boys and 50 girls, 200 boys and 500 girls, etc. <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Ratios are given by x:y, x to y, or x\/y. If a question says \u201cfor every x there is\/are a y,\u201d you are most likely dealing with a ratio question. Ratios can also be x:y:z.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Ratios can be simplified like fractions. 3:6 is the same as 1:2. <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Remember that if there is a 2:5 ratio of boys to girls at a school, the ratio of boys to total students is 2:(5 + 2) = 2:7.
