In this post, we\u2019re going to briefly break down the format of the Praxis Core.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/praxis\/what-is-the-praxis\/\">Praxis Core<\/a> is made up of three tests:<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>The Reading Test<\/h2>\n<p>In this 85-minute portion, you\u2019ll be asked to read and analyze texts. The ETS divides <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/praxis\/introduction-to-the-praxis-core-reading-test\/\">the reading exam<\/a> into three question types:<\/p>\n<li><strong>17-22 \u201cKey Ideas and Details\u201d questions.<\/strong> These questions require you to draw inferences based on the passage, decide what the main ideas of the text are, and determine how ideas, people, and events function in the text and in the context of the author\u2019s argument.<\/li>\n<li><strong>14-19 \u201cCraft, Structure, and Language Skills\u201d questions.<\/strong> These questions ask you to analyze how certain words and phrases are used in the passage, how certain parts of the text relate to others, and to use context to determine the meaning of words and phrases.<\/li>\n<li><strong>17-22 \u201cIntegration of Knowledge and Ideas\u201d questions.<\/strong> These questions require that you interpret content that may be visual, quantitative, or textual; to analyze the validity of claims and the relevance of evidence; and to compare multiple texts on the same topic.<\/li>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>The Writing Test<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/praxis\/introduction-to-the-praxis-core-writing-test\/\">writing section<\/a> is divided into two parts:<\/p>\n<li><strong>Selected Response<\/strong> (40 min.): On this section, you\u2019ll be answering questions that test your ability to use standard written English. These questions test your ability to recognize correct English usage; to choose the best way to write a sentence; to revise and edit an essay; and to recognize and implement research and citation strategies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>2 Essays<\/strong> (30 min. each): This section requires you to produce two essays. The first is an argumentative essay, in which you need to make a claim and support it with evidence. The second essay is source-based: You\u2019ll be given two passages that address a topic. After reading the passages, you\u2019ll be asked to address the topic yourself using the passages as source material.<\/li>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>The Math Test<\/h2>\n<p>The 85-minute <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ets.org\/s\/praxis\/pdf\/5732.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">math test<\/a> has four parts:<\/p>\n<li><strong>17 \u201cNumber and Quantity&#8221;<\/strong> questions<\/li>\n<li><strong>17 \u201cAlgebra and Functions\u201d<\/strong> questions<\/li>\n<li><strong>17 \u201cGeometry\u201d<\/strong> questions<\/li>\n<li><strong>17 \u201cStatistics and Probability\u201d<\/strong> questions<\/li>\n<p><em><br \/>\n<strong>Note: You will be provided with an on-screen calculator.<\/strong><\/em> You can read more about this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ets.org\/praxis\/test_day\/policies\/calculators\/using_onscreen_calculator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now that you\u2019ve decided to take the Praxis Core, you\u2019re probably wondering just what the test will look like.
