Have you ever completed a reading passage only to have\u00a0to read it again? When it comes to taking the Praxis Core exam, rereading passages is a waste of time. You may run out of time before you can answer every question. If you\u2019re wondering how to remember what you read, try these 5 tips.<\/p>\n

1. Take Notes<\/h2>\n

Think about the main themes of each passage. As you come up with the theme, you may want to jot down ideas. Use your scratch paper to take notes<\/a>. This\u00a0will help you focus as you read. As an added bonus, you can refer to your notes as you answer the questions on the exam.<\/p>\n

2. Pose Questions<\/h2>\n

Before starting a passage, ask yourself a few questions<\/a>. For example, what is the passage about? What is the theme of the passage? What is the author trying to say about the subject? Then, as you read through the passage, answer your questions. Look for the answers, so you are better prepared to answer the exam questions.<\/p>\n

3. Review the Questions First<\/h2>\n

If you need help coming up with questions, take a quick moment to read through the exam questions. What questions will you need to answer after reading the passage? It will take a few extra minutes to do this, but it can help you stay focused as you read the passage.<\/p>\n

4. Make Connections<\/h2>\n

To help you focus on what you\u2019re reading, try to make a connection to the passage<\/a>. What do you know about the subject? Have you ever experienced anything described in the passage? When you find personal connections to the passage, you\u2019ll have an easier time staying focused and remembering what you read. It might also help you figure out the answers after the passage.<\/p>\n

5. Read Out Loud<\/h2>\n

Reading out loud may not be possible while you\u2019re taking the exam, but it can help you while you\u2019re preparing for it. I benefit from reading out loud. When it\u2019s not possible to do so, I mouth the words or silently whisper the words. It slows me down, but it helps me remember what the passage is about.<\/p>\n
