Resources to Help You Find Online Teaching Jobs

Online education is a growing trend for elementary and secondary education students. Many families supplement their home schooling curriculum with online programs, or students turn to online schools to challenge or assist them beyond what their regular class can.

With the amount of students enrolling in these programs, there is a great need for teachers who feel comfortable teaching online. However, finding these positions can be difficult. If you’re interested in starting an online teaching career, here are some resources that you can use.

Indeed.com

Indeed.com, SimplyHired.com, and other job boards are great options for job searching. In fact, Indeed.com is known for including the most open K-12 teaching positions.

When completing the search information, type “online teaching” or “online teacher”. Don’t forget to include the quotation marks around the words to limit your search. You can add specifics to the search, such as “online elementary teacher” or “online science teacher”. Then, type “remote” for where you want to work. This should bring up a list of online positions available for to check out.

Teachers-Teachers.com

Teachers-teachers.com is a free search engine that includes a list of education-based employment positions. It allows you to categorize your search by the position and location that you’re interested in searching.

You can also upload your resume to easily apply to several jobs at a time and help recruiters find you. When browsing open positions, type in “online” into the search box for a list of jobs that you can choose from.

Online School Websites

There are several online schools that need people who live in various states to work with their clients. You can check out their websites to review the curriculum, school philosophy, pay and benefits, and other factors to help you understand what to expect. If you’re interested in working for the school, you can apply for any open positions they have. Some of these online schools are K12.com, Connections Academy, Calvert Education, and Forest Trail Academy. There are several state-specific online schools that you can look into, too.

If these programs aren’t currently hiring teachers in your area of expertise, find other ways to get involved. This will help you network and create positive relationships with the people who hire teachers for the school.

As you look for online teaching positions, take the time to research each position just as you would for any other teaching position. Tailor your cover letter, and look for ways to show these schools that you have the tech savviness needed to succeed in these positions and make a difference in the lives of your students even from behind a computer.
