Praxis Test Fees

Praxis Core Test Fees

It does cost money to take the Praxis test. For the combined Praxis Core, that is, the “Core Academic Skills for Educators: Combined Test (Reading, Writing and Mathematics),” the fee is $150. This is actually significantly cheaper than taking the Reading, Writing, and Mathematics tests separately at $90 each (which would total $270!). For that reason, as well as the comparative ease of streamlining your study plan for one test date rather than three, it is generally a good bet to take the combined Praxis Core test.

Subject Test Fees

You may also need to take a subject test for your teaching area. In the past, these were called Praxis II tests, so you may see them referred to by that name. These fees range from $50 to $170 depending on which test (or tests) you need. The Praxis website lists the fees for each test. Most tests are $120 or $146. Some subject areas, like special education, have a lot of related assessments, so make sure you know which one(s) you need to take.

How to Pay for the Praxis Test

It’s pretty easy to pay for the Praxis test. When you register, you can pay with Credit/Debit card, PayPal, money order, or check. You can’t pay in cash and you need to pay the full amount at once. If you have concerns about paying for the Praxis test, there are fee waivers available.

Other Information on Praxis Fees

There are some extra charges you might need to pay if you have to change your registration. Registering by phone, changing your test date or center, and ordering additional score reports all have costs attached ($35, $40, and $50, respectively). If something comes up and you need to cancel your test, you are eligible for a 50 percent refund if you cancel more than 3 days before your test. If you need to retake the Praxis test, you will need to pay the registration fee again.
