Michigan RN License Requirements

When you are ready to apply for a nursing license it is important to be familiar with the state requirements. Each state has different eligibility requirements and fees. Planning ahead will allow you to organize the required paperwork and budget for the required expenses.

Read on for Michigan RN license requirements.

Michigan RN License Step 1

Complete an approved nursing program and then have the school send a certificate of program completion to the board of nursing. If you attended a program out of state, the school must send the final official transcripts showing the degree earned and the graduation date.

If you were educated in a foreign country, the process for obtaining your registered nurse license in Michigan is a little different. A full education course review by the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) needs to be completed. You will also have to show proof of passing the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam.

Michigan RN License Step 2

Register with Pearson Vue. There is a $200 fee for registering for the NCLEX-RN exam. Once all eligibility criteria have been verified, you will be contacted with information on scheduling your exam.

Michigan RN License Step 3

The Michigan Board of Nursing requires all applicants to complete a criminal records check. They recommend that you complete this process within ten days of submitting your application to avoid delays. When you schedule your session, you should be prepared to pay a fee of around $65. Be sure to bring a driver’s license or other federal – issued picture identification to your fingerprint appointment.

Michigan RN License Step 5

Once you receive your testing confirmation information from Pearson Vue, you can schedule your exam. Stay calm and focused knowing that you have worked hard and are prepared for the NCLEX. You are on your way to becoming a member of the very rewarding field of nursing. Good Luck!

Michigan requires registered nurses to complete 25 hours of continuing educational contact hours during the 2 years preceding renewal. At least one hour must be on pain or pain symptom management. Stay organized and always keep all of your contact hour certificates in one place so you are prepared to provide proof f completion.
