To apply for accommodations on the MCAT, follow these steps!<\/p>\n<h2>What should I do before applying for MCAT accommodations?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Create an AAMC ID (if you have not already done so).<\/li>\n<li>Understand how the review process works.<\/li>\n<li>Review pertinent review cycles, deadlines, and dates.<\/li>\n<li>Understand all necessary application steps.<\/li>\n<li>Identify application requirements associated with your condition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How do I submit my application for MCAT accommodations?<\/h2>\n<p>First submit your initial application, which can be reviewed here: <a href=\"https:\/\/students-residents.aamc.org\/applying-medical-school\/article\/applying-accommodations\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Applying for Accommodations<\/a>. Also be sure to review the <a href=\"https:\/\/aamc-orange.global.ssl.fastly.net\/production\/media\/filer_public\/18\/90\/189077ca-f0d0-4c26-ac41-1bf72c1e8248\/understanding_the_review_process.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Understanding the Review Process<\/a> document.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Complete the Profile, Condition, and History sections in MCAT Accommodations Online (MAO).<\/li>\n<li>Next you\u2019ll need a personal statement, which is a narrative that explains your own perspective about your particular needs.<\/li>\n<li>A comprehensive evaluation. This step is a little tricky. Here are links for specific classes of possible reasons for accommodations:\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/students-residents.aamc.org\/applying-medical-school\/article\/required-academic-and-medical-supporting-documenta\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Evaluation Requirements Learning Disabilities, ADHD, &#038; Psychiatric Disabilities<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/students-residents.aamc.org\/content\/downloadable\/1725\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Evaluation Requirements Physical Disabilities<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/students-residents.aamc.org\/content\/downloadable\/1723\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Evaluation Requirements Sensory Disabilities<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/students-residents.aamc.org\/content\/downloadable\/1722\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Evaluation Requirements Diabetes<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/students-residents.aamc.org\/content\/downloadable\/1721\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Evaluation Requirements Acquired Brain Injury<\/a>*<br \/>\n*For our purposes, ABI includes any type of insult or injury to your brain, e.g., concussion, traumatic brain injury, cognitive changes due to illness, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ll need academic and medical documentation. There is a table suggesting different sorts of evidence for different conditions on the <a href=\"https:\/\/students-residents.aamc.org\/applying-medical-school\/article\/applying-accommodations\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Applying for Accommodations<\/a> page.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Finally, there are several requirements, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applications must be in English.<\/li>\n<li>Keep a copy because AAMC will not return materials.<\/li>\n<li>Submit all of your materials at once.<\/li>\n<li>You must upload your materials to the MAO system or mail it to the office.<\/li>\n<li>Communication must be made formally, not by phone or email.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What happens after I apply for the MCAT with accommodations?<\/h2>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve received your determination, there are several possible outcomes. You might be approved, asked for more materials because your application is incomplete, or denied. In this case, you can add information for a Reconsideration, or request a reveal without new information, which is called an Appeal. You can review all of the specifics for this stage here: <a href=\"https:\/\/students-residents.aamc.org\/applying-medical-school\/article\/after-you-received-initial-determination\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">After You Have Received an Initial Determination<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure to allow <strong>60 days<\/strong> for initial review, and <strong>30 days<\/strong> more for Reconsiderations, Appeals, and Extensions. For test dates after 2019, visit the AAMC website to review the exact deadlines and test dates.<\/p>\n<h2>How do I register for the MCAT exam?<\/h2>\n<p>Finally, here are the instructions for registration. Keep in mind that for accommodations you will most likely need to register by phone.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/mcat\/mcat-registration\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Register for an MCAT exam<\/a> through the <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.aamc.org\/mrs\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">MCAT Registration System<\/a>. (Check out our post on <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/mcat\/mcat-test-dates\/\">MCAT test dates<\/a> for important dates and additional registration tips.)<\/li>\n<li>Complete the <strong>Personal Info<\/strong>, <strong>Biographic Info<\/strong>, <strong>Background<\/strong>, <strong>Consents<\/strong>, and <strong>Use of Personal Info<\/strong> sections of the exam registration process.
