RNA carries instructions from DNA on how to control the processes involved in protein synthesis. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>DNA can be converted into RNA through a process called <strong>transcription<\/strong>. From there, RNA may then be converted into proteins. <\/p>\n<p>DNA can also make more of itself in a process called <strong>replication. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>DNA and RNA are both composed mainly of a five-carbon sugar, called pentose sugar (<em>pent<\/em> for five!) In the case of DNA, the pentose sugar is <strong>deoxyribose<\/strong>, while in RNA it\u2019s simply <strong>ribose<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/mcat\/files\/2017\/11\/Screen-Shot-2017-11-24-at-1.07.01-PM.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/mcat\/files\/2017\/11\/Screen-Shot-2017-11-24-at-1.07.01-PM.png\" alt=\"MCAT Molecular Genetics\" width=\"550\" height=\"375\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1114\" srcset=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/mcat\/files\/2017\/11\/Screen-Shot-2017-11-24-at-1.07.01-PM.png 770w, https:\/\/magoosh.com\/mcat\/files\/2017\/11\/Screen-Shot-2017-11-24-at-1.07.01-PM-300x205.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The other two components of DNA (and RNA) are a nitrogenous base and a phosphate group.<\/p>\n<p>The bases can either be pyrimidine or purine. Pyrimidine bases are <strong>cytosine (C)<\/strong>, <strong>uracil (U)<\/strong>, or <strong>thymine (T)<\/strong>. Purine bases are <strong>adenine (A)<\/strong> and <strong>guanine (G)<\/strong>. She began her tutoring journey while in undergrad, helping her fellow students master math, computer programming, Spanish, English, and Philosophy. \r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nMolly graduated from Lewis & Clark College with a B.A. in Philosophy, and she continues to study ethics to this day.
