Taking the LSAT in Canada?

So you’re looking at taking the LSAT in Canada? Well, I have good news for you. You can! Canada, along with 60 other countries, has test locations where you can take the LSAT on at least one of the four available test dates.

Canada has 50 locations all over the country, so chances are you will be pretty close to one of them.
 

Generally, you should take the test at one of the published testing locations.

By far the best and easiest route to take when signing up for the LSAT in Canada is to go to one of the many published testing locations. There is at least one published testing center in every province and territory. Just go here to see the current list. (Hit control + f  on a PC, or command + f on a Mac, and then type in “Canada” to see the Canadian test centers.)

After you pick a location, go ahead and sign up with LSAC, and pay the fee by the deadline for your test. It will be one less thing you need to stress you out as you prep for the exam. Just make sure your preferred testing location offers the test for the date you want to take it.
 

Not every testing location offers the test for all four test dates.

While a large portion of the published locations offer the LSAT for all 4 exam dates, A LOT of them DON’T. Take the Canadian University College in Lacombe, Alberta, for example. They only offer the LSAT in June.

Some of the exam locations, on the other hand, offer the test on three, but not four, of the exam dates.

Take a couple of extra seconds and make sure the location you want to take the exam offers it on the date you want to take it. You don’t want to be the one that tries to sign up for the exam right before the deadline, only to realize you’ll have to wait another three months before you can take the exam.
 

You can take the test at an unpublished location, but you need to make a formal request.

If taking the LSAT at one of these published locations is not feasible, you can make a formal request (instructions here) to take the exam at an unpublished location.

Before you do that, though, you need to meet these requirements:

• You must be located more than 160 km from a published testing location; and
• You must be unable to travel to one of the open, published locations.

All you need to do is follow the instructions from the link above, fax in your request and your credit card number, and then wait for a response. Be sure to do this early enough, so you don’t miss the registration deadline.

You also need to make sure your request and money are received before the relevant deadline, found here, or LSAC won’t even attempt to establish an unpublished test center.

Along with your formal request, you’ll need to pay $175 USD to take the LSAT, and an additional $360 USD to request the unpublished test center. That’s a grand total of $535 USD.

While you can take the test at an unpublished location, if you can avoid it, I recommend you drive or fly to one of the published locations. This will save you a lot of time, energy, and pain.
