An alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, he is recognised worldwide as the leader of one of the biggest tech firms, Google. Mr. Pichai has a degree in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT-KGP, went on to earn an M.S. from Stanford in Material Sciences and Engineering, and an M.B.A. degree from Wharton. By becoming the head of such a huge organisation, he helped put India on the map of corporate leadership and created a name for his alma mater. He is a constant source of motivation and inspires people everywhere to keep pushing hard to achieve their dreams.
The former governor of RBI is an alumnus of IIT Delhi, having graduated from there with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Rajan also holds degrees from both IIM Ahmedabad and MIT. He is credited with being one of the first people to point out the flaws in the financial sector, and predicting the impending crisis which turned out to be the great recession of 2008. Humble and knowledgeable, he is a shining example of qualities that should be emulated by leaders of today.
A Chemical Engineer from IIT Delhi, she went on to get her Masters from Cornell University. She made waves in the tech industry by becoming the CTO at Motorola and Cisco. She was also named one of the world’s 100 most powerful women according to Forbes. She currently serves as the CEO of NIO, a Chinese automobile company that is trying to develop an electric vehicle to take on Elon Musk’s Tesla. She is known for fighting for more female participation in technological fields. She is a trailblazer for women worldwide who want to break into the male-dominated tech industry.
One of the co-founders of Flipkart, it is hard to forget his name when counting successful alumni of IITs. An IIT Delhi graduate, he worked at Amazon before creating one of India’s largest e-commerce companies. By creating Flipkart, he opened a whole new world of opportunities for youngsters across the nation. This man inspired countless people to come up with their own unique ideas and innovative solutions, and work hard to turn them into reality. Even though he isn’t a part of Flipkart anymore, his story continues to inspire millions of Indians to pursue their dreams.
This man holds an Electrical Engineering degree from IIT Bombay and is recognised as one of the founders of Infosys. His company pushed India to the forefront as a leading provider of IT services. And his contributions don’t end here. Mr. Nilekani was invited by former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, to become chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India—and was given the task of creating an identification system that could be extended to include every citizen. He is credited with the creation of Aadhaar, which currently has upwards of 1.19 billion registered individuals.
The list is endless. There are numerous people who attended IITs, and went on to achieve things we didn’t know were possible. Reading their stories can inspire us, and help us push ourselves harder to leave our own mark in this world.
