I <strong>will be watching<\/strong> John and Sharon debate this evening.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>**Going to be**<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is possible to use <strong><em>am\/is\/are + going to<\/em><\/strong> instead of <strong><em>will<\/em><\/strong> in the future continuous tense.<\/p>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I\u2019m <strong><em>going to be watching<\/em><\/strong> the Super Bowl with my family this evening.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The form is correct\u2014and you will definitely hear it. However, it is used more frequently in colloquial speech by saying \u2018<strong><em>gonna be<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 instead of \u2018<strong><em>going to<\/em><\/strong>\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Sue: Hey, what are you up to tonight?<\/em><em>Mary: I\u2019m <strong>gonna be working<\/strong> at the restaurant all night.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The \u2018<strong><em>Going to<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 form isn&#8217;t used very often in formal writing, and \u2018<strong><em>gonna be<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 is not appropriate in a formal situation.<\/p>\n<h2>Making It Negative<\/h2>\n<p>To make the future continuous tense in negative form, use this formula: <strong>will <em>+ not + be + present participle.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I <strong><em>will not be calling<\/em><\/strong> her this evening.<\/li>\n<li>We <strong><em>will not be driving<\/em><\/strong> tomorrow.<\/li>\n<li>John <strong><em>will not be opening<\/em><\/strong> the restaurant in the morning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Asking a Question<\/h2>\n<p>When asking a question in the future continuous tense, use the formula: <strong><em>will + subject + be + present participle.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Will they be waiting<\/em><\/strong> for us when we arrive?<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>What will I be doing<\/em><\/strong> when I arrive?<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>What will they be wearing<\/em><\/strong> to the wedding?<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Will it be snowing<\/em><\/strong> when we get there?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>When To Use the Future Continuous Tense<\/h2>\n<p>The simple definition of the <strong><em>future continuous tense<\/em><\/strong> is that it indicates an action that will happen in the future and continue for a certain amount of time. However, there are many contexts of that indication that we will dissect in this section.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Use #1<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>When describing an action that will happen in the future, continue, and then be interrupted by another action.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Can you answer the door in 5 min.? <strong><em>I\u2019ll be cooking<\/em><\/strong> when she arrives.<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>I\u2019ll be waiting<\/em><\/strong> here when you arrive.<\/li>\n<li>We <strong><em>will be staying<\/em><\/strong> at an AirBnb, so contact the owner of the property if anything happens.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Use #2<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>When using a continuous action in the future that will happen at a specific time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Similar to <strong><em>Use #1<\/em><\/strong> this puts the use of the future continuous as the interrupting action.<\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At Noon, I <strong><em>will be eating<\/em><\/strong> lunch with my daughter.<\/li>\n<li>Around 6, <strong><em>we\u2019ll be watching<\/em><\/strong> a movie with our kids.<\/li>\n<li>Tomorrow morning, <strong><em>she\u2019ll be writing<\/em><\/strong> some more chapters of her book.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Use #3<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>When describing actions happening at the same time in the future.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>While they\u2019re talking, <strong><em>I\u2019ll be watching<\/em><\/strong> their dog.<\/li>\n<li>Tomorrow I will be helping my mother at her house, and he\u2019ll be watching the kids at home.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is a prime example of a possible colloquial use of \u2018<strong><em>gonna be<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 in this context.<\/p>\n<p><em>What are you two doing tomorrow?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>I\u2019m going to be helping<\/em><\/strong> my mother at her house, and <strong><em>he\u2019s going to be watching<\/em><\/strong> the kids.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Use #4<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>When describing an atmosphere that may or may not exist in the future.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When we get to the game, everyone <strong><em>will be shouting and yelling<\/em><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>I can see it now. Everyone <strong><em>will be laughing<\/em><\/strong> at me.<\/li>\n<li>I don\u2019t want to go to the funeral.
