In this post, I&#8217;ll look at advanced vocabulary for IELTS Writing Task 2 and explain how you can use IELTS Writing Task 2 vocabulary band 9 words to raise your band level. <\/p>\n<p><em>These words and phrases work for both the Academic and General Training IELTS exams!<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>IELTS Writing Task 2 Vocabulary: Band 9 Factors<\/h2>\n<p>Before we dive into vocabulary, let&#8217;s take a quick look at what, exactly, IETLS Writing Task 2 is evaluating. As the <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/ielts\/ielts-writing-rubric\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IELTS rubric<\/a> shows, you&#8217;re evaluated on four different areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Task response (25%)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/ielts\/ielts-academic-writing-task-1-coherence-cohesion\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Coherence and cohesion<\/a> (25%)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/ielts\/ielts-academic-writing-task-1-lexical-resource\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lexical resource<\/a> (25%)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/ielts\/ielts-academic-writing-task-1-grammatical-range-accuracy\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Grammatical range and accuracy<\/a> (25%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lexical resource measures your ability to use a wide range of vocabulary without errors and in proper context in your written responses. In other words, <strong>vocabulary alone<\/strong> isn&#8217;t enough to get you a band 9 score. However, using a variety of words that are appropriate for band 9 can add to your lexical resource score, raising it overall.<\/p>\n<p>That, however, comes with a few caveats. First of all, you must <strong>use the terms correctly<\/strong>. There&#8217;s zero benefits to using complex terms incorrectly\u2014you won&#8217;t get extra credit for including them.<\/p>\n<p>Second of all, you need to use a <strong>variety of words and phrases<\/strong>. If you can (correctly) use the term &#8220;Conversely,&#8221; that&#8217;s awesome\u2014unless you use it five times in a single essay. In that case, it&#8217;s likely to hurt your score more than it helps. <\/p>\n<p>Keeping that in mind, let&#8217;s dive into some advanced vocabulary for IELTS Writing Task 2!<\/p>\n<h2>Advanced Vocabulary for IELTS Writing Task 2: From Band 5 to Band 9<\/h2>\n<p>Again, keep in mind that the IELTS Writing Task 2 vocabulary band 9 terms I&#8217;m using here aren&#8217;t a guarantee of scoring in band 9. They are, however, advanced phrases that you can use to present more complex ideas. For each one, take a look at the example using it to see what it looks like in practice!<\/p>\n<p>Ready? Here are some examples of advanced vocabulary for IELTS Writing Task 2 in different categories.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Examples of Introductions and Openings Vocabulary<\/strong><\/h3>\n<table
