Below are some key IELTS vocabulary words that I would recommend:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Speaking IELTS Vocabulary and Phrases<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">It is particularly important in the speaking module to use a wide range of vocabulary and phrases.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>One of the most common mistakes students make is repeating the examiners question in their answer. When the examiner asks you a question, listen for a word you can build your answer around and then paraphrase the word in your response. Below are some common phrases used in the exam questions with relevant synonyms that you can replace in your response:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"li3\"><em><span class=\"s1\">What do you think the <\/span><span class=\"s3\">benefits<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\"><em> of being able to speak more than one language are? <\/em><strong>Benefits: <\/strong>advantages, positive aspects, is beneficial (i.e. The main advantages\u2026\/One of the most positive aspects\u2026\/Being able to converse in more than one language is extremely beneficial.)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"li3\"><em><span class=\"s1\">Can you give me some <\/span><span class=\"s3\">examples<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\"><em>? <\/em><strong>Examples:<\/strong> for instance, a good example, the best example (i.e.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>For instance\u2026\/A good example\u2026.\/The best example I can give you\u2026)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"li3\"><em><span class=\"s1\">Can you describe a person or incident that <\/span><span class=\"s3\">made an an impression on you<\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\"><em>?<\/em> <strong>Made an impression on me:<\/strong> influenced me, had an enormous impact on me, had a lasting effect on me, changed the way I looked at things. (i.e. Watching the twin towers collapse on 9\/11 had a lasting effect on<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>me\/ changed the way I looked at things\/had an enormous impact on me.)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"li3\"><em><span class=\"s1\">What type of <\/span><span class=\"s3\">activities <\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\"><em>do you like to do in your free time? <\/em><strong>Activities:<\/strong> hobby, leisure pursuit, pastime (i.e. My favorite hobby\/leisure pursuit, pastime is riding my bicycle.)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"li3\"><em><span class=\"s1\">Can you describe something that you own that is very <\/span><span class=\"s3\">important <\/span><\/em><span class=\"s1\"><em>to you?<\/em> <strong>Important: <\/strong>significant, indispensable, valuable (i.e. The most important \/significant \/indispensable \/valuable item I possess is a silver bracelet from my late Aunt Sue.)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Writing IELTS Vocabulary and Phrases<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Like the speaking module, in the writing module you need to paraphrase the task response, which often requires using a variety of synonyms for one word throughout an essay. Also, linking your sentences is very important.
