New Delhi

At all of these test centers, the IELTS fee is currently INR 14,700.

You can find IELTS exam dates for India locations by searching through the dates at the center closest to you. Keep in mind that not all test centers offer both formats (computer-based and paper). Some offer only one or the other on IELTS dates for India.

If you want to register at any of these test centers, you can find links to the IELTS booking sites at the British Council and IDP in the sections immediately below. Keep in mind that you can also find all IELTS centers in India on the official IETLS booking engine.

The IDP is one of two organizations offering the TOEFL in India. You can book either through the IDP website (global or Indian) or choose to book through the official website as described in the steps above.

Keep in mind that it doesn’t make a difference which organization you register with. The main difference is in the test centers each company maintains, so find the location and date that suits you.

IELTS Exam Dates: FAQ

How long are IELTS scores valid?

IELTS scores are valid for two years. However, some organizations may decide to accept older scores (this has particularly been true during the COVID-19 pandemic), so check with them before scheduling an IELTS retake.

Is IDP or British Council better?

Both organizations offer IELTS in exactly the same way, so neither IDP nor the British Council is better (or worse!) than the other. Find the center that is most convenient for you and choose that one!

How much does the IELTS cost?

It depends on where you take it. For example, the fees in India right now are INR 14,700. Find out more in our post about IELTS test dates and fees.

Can I change my IELTS test date?

Yes! You can either reschedule your appointment up to five weeks before the test date at no charge, through your online account or by email. Your new test date has to be within three months of the original date, though.

If you cancel up to five weeks before the test center, you’ll get most of your fee refunded, with the exception of an admin fee.

Rescheduling or cancelling five weeks or less before the exam means that you forfeit your fee, unless you provide a medical certificate within five days of your test. In that case, you’ll get a refund, minus the administrative cost.

What should I do if COVID restrictions mean I can’t go to a test center?

IELTS also offers the IELTS Indicator exam, which is an at-home IELTS. Verify that the schools or organizations to which you’re applying will accept it before registering.

Is 2 weeks enough time to prepare for IELTS?

Generally, a month or more is ideal to prepare for the IELTS. But can you prepare in 2 weeks and raise your score? Definitely! Check out Magoosh’s IELTS study plans ranging from a week to a month!

What can I expect on test day?

On the day of the exam, you’ll show up at the test center about 1 hour and 15 minutes before the test begins to show ID and complete registration. The test begins with Listening, proceeds to Reading, and finishes with Writing. Speaking is scheduled separately.

By the way, improve your IELTS score with Magoosh!

Thank you for creating this blog!

I wanted to know what happens if you do not appear for an IELTS exam that you have registered for? Is a TRF form generated?

If an application needs the most recent scores and those are the ones I was absent for (but have prior eligible scores), will it be a hindrance?

If you miss your IELTS exam entirely, there will be no TRF. In that case you can just go with the score report you already have from the previous test that you were able to show up for. 🙂

Kindly tell me if there is any possibility of changing the IELTS test date once after you have already booked a test date without paying additional charges .

Happy to help! The rules for rescheduling the IELTS are listed here, under the heading “Requesting a Day Transfer.” Basically, you can reschedule a 75% refund and no new fees if you reschedule your test 5 weeks or more in advance, and you can reschedule for free, even short notice, if you are changing your IELTS test date due to a documented, serious illness. (There are somewhat similar rules for IELTS exam cancellation as well.)
