So you applied to some summer internships, but you didn’t get any of them. Don’t worry about it too much and don’t be too hard on yourself. When you’re in high school or the early years of college, it can be difficult to find internships because most of us lack experience.
Even if you didn’t manage to score the perfect internship, there are still lots of other productive ways to spend your summer.
Get a summer job
You don’t need to have the most impressive job in the world at this point. Try working at a local pizza place or your community pool. These are still great ways to build your resume by showing you have work experience. Plus, you can start saving money.
Volunteering is something else you can add to a resume. Teach little kids how to read at the library. Serve food at a homeless shelter. There are tons of fun ways to give back to your community. If you convince your friends to join you, volunteering can be a social opportunity as well.
Take a class
Take a community college class in something you’re interested in, but maybe didn’t have a chance to take during the school year. Now you have the chance.
Of course, you can just take a class for your own knowledge and enjoyment. But you can also take a community college class to prepare you for the upcoming semester. Are you worried about learning calculus? If you take a summer class beforehand, you’ll feel a lot more prepared.
You can also take a class in order to be a great club member. Want to take photographs for the school newspaper? Take a photography class so you can wow your editors.
Get in shape
When we’re stressed out by homework during the school year, we aren’t always in the mood to exercise. Take advantage of summer break by using it to get in shape.
If you want to play a sport during the school year, summer is the time to build your skills. You’ll be a valuable member of the team!
Go on a staycation
Be a tourist at home. If you’ll be heading off to college soon, you never know how much more time you’ll get to spend in your hometown. Do all the things you never had a chance to do. Eat at great restaurants. Go to new parks. Plan a fun road trip.
