in the GMAT OG.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Arithmetic<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s not really an equation, but you should know how to add &amp; subtract &amp; multiply &amp; divide <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/fractions-on-the-gmat\/\">fractions<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/understanding-percents-on-the-gmat\/\">Percents<\/a> are all over the GMAT, and you should understand converting among decimals &amp; fractions &amp; percents, as well as the crucial topic of percent changes.\u00a0 Among the big arithmetic equations are:<\/p>\n<p>= <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/gmat-quant-thoughts-on-remainders\/\">the &#8220;remainder&#8221; equation<\/a> (a.k.a. &#8220;rebuilding the dividend&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>= the <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/doubling-and-halving-trick-for-gmat-math\/\">doubling and halving<\/a> method<\/p>\n<p>= <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/exponent-properties-on-the-gmat\/\">the laws of exponents<\/a><\/p>\n<p>= <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/gmat-averages-and-sums-formulas\/\">the average formula<\/a> (esp. for finding the sum)<\/p>\n<p>= <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/gmat-probability\/\">the probability &#8220;AND&#8221; and &#8220;OR&#8221; rules<\/a><\/p>\n<p>= <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/gmat-quant-how-to-count\/\">the Fundamental Counting Principle<\/a><\/p>\n<p>= <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/gmat-permutations-and-combinations\/\">the formulas for permutations &amp; combinations<\/a><\/p>\n<p>= <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/gmat-factorials\/\">factorials<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Notice, I do not list standard deviation as an equation you need to know &#8212; you need to understand <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/standard-deviation-on-the-gmat\/\">the properties of standard deviation<\/a>, but not the exact formula.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Algebra<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s not really an equation, but you should understand the procedures for solving for x, or solving for <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/gmat-quant-how-to-solve-two-equations-with-two-variables\/\">two variables with two equations<\/a>.\u00a0 You should understand the rules for inequalities.\u00a0 Ironically, I will not recommend perhaps the most famous high school algebra equation, the Quadratic Formula &#8212; it&#8217;s much more important on the GMAT to know how to solve quadratics by <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/algebra-on-the-gmat-how-to-factor\/\">factoring<\/a>.\u00a0 Algebra equations important on the GMAT include:<\/p>\n<p>= <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/foil-on-the-gmat-simplifying-and-expanding\/\">the FOIL pattern<\/a><\/p>\n<p>= <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/gmat-math-the-many-meaning-of-minus\/\">absolute values and negatives<\/a> produce befuddling equations<\/p>\n<p>= <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/function-notation-on-the-gmat\/\">function notation<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Geometry<\/h2>\n<p>The beautiful realm of geometry entails several important formulas, starting with the great granddaddy of them all:<\/p>\n<p>= <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/the-pythagorean-theorem-on-the-gmat\/\">The Pythagorean Theorem<\/a><\/p>\n<p>others include:<\/p>\n<p>= <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/gmat-math-area-of-a-triangle\/\">area of a triangle<\/a> (A = 0.5bh)<\/p>\n<p>= area of a rectangle (A = bh)<\/p>\n<p>= <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/wp-content\/plugins\/wpmathpub\/phpmathpublisher\/img\/math_993_88de115f66f91d59fa316ffd765d4b4e.png\" style=\"vertical-align:-7px; display: inline-block ;\" alt=\"c = 2*pi*r\" title=\"c = 2*pi*r\"\/><\/p>\n<p>= Archimedes&#8217; formula: <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/wp-content\/plugins\/wpmathpub\/phpmathpublisher\/img\/math_993.5_b8eff07a461b8520ceadd9c786f80150.png\" style=\"vertical-align:-6.5px; display: inline-block ;\" alt=\"A = pi*r^2\" title=\"A = pi*r^2\"\/><\/p>\n<p>= Volume of a box = (height)*(width)*(depth)<\/p>\n<p>= <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/gmat-math-lines-slope-in-the-x-y-plane\/\">slope<\/a> in the x-y plane<\/p>\n<p>= <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/gmat-math-midpoints-and-parallel-vs-perpendicular-lines\/\">slopes for parallel &amp; perpendicular lines<\/a><\/p>\n<p>= the <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/gmat-math-special-properties-of-the-line-y-x\/\">special properties of the line y = x<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Oddly, I am going to strongly recommend NOT to memorize a formula for <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/gmat-coordinate-geometry-distance-between-two-points\/\">finding distance in the x-y plane<\/a> &#8212;
