{"id":3495,"date":"2013-03-11T09:37:27","date_gmt":"2013-03-11T16:37:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/?p=3495"},"modified":"2020-01-15T10:49:58","modified_gmt":"2020-01-15T18:49:58","slug":"gmat-forums","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/gmat-forums\/","title":{"rendered":"GMAT Forums"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/files\/2013\/03\/shutterstock_341978867.jpg\" alt=\"GMAT Forums\" width=\"500\" height=\"334\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7395\" srcset=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/files\/2013\/03\/shutterstock_341978867.jpg 500w, https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/files\/2013\/03\/shutterstock_341978867-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/files\/2013\/03\/shutterstock_341978867-30x20.jpg 30w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nEveryone preparing to apply to business school should know about the two best <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/gmat-101\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">GMAT<\/a> forums&mdash;which also happen to be two of the best GMAT communities in general:<\/p>\n<p>1. <a href=\"http:\/\/gmatclub.com\/forum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GMAT Club<\/a><\/p>\n<p>2. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.beatthegmat.com\/forums\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Beat the GMAT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Why is it so important for potential test takers to be familiar with these GMAT forums?<\/p>\n<h2>These GMAT forums are free<\/h2>\n<p>As a general rule, it would seem that <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/the-best-gmat-and-mba-admissions-resources\/\">the best GMAT resources<\/a> tend to cost a pretty penny, while resources that are cheap or free are typically not as helpful.\u00a0Although that may be the general pattern, I would argue that <a href=\"http:\/\/gmat.magoosh.com\/testimonials\">Magoosh is a notable exception<\/a>, offering some of the highest quality prep at bargain basement prices.\u00a0I will admit, though, that the above two GMAT forums are even more of a bargain, because they offer something valuable <i>for free!<\/i>\u00a0It\u2019s hard to beat that price!\u00a0(But we <i>can<\/i> match it: <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/gmat\/an-overview-of-magooshs-free-gmat-resources\/\">Magoosh offers a number of free resources<\/a> as well.)<\/p>\n<p>You can sign up for a free account on GMAT Club or Beat the GMAT simply by providing your email\u2014and at no time will your membership in either forum cost you a dime.\u00a0How can they do that?\u00a0After all, we all know there\u2019s no such thing as a free lunch!\u00a0So how can these GMAT forums offer something for nothing?<\/p>\n<h2>How these GMAT communities work: a GMAT expert\u2019s perspective<\/h2>\n<p>Of course, there\u2019s a modicum of GMAT-relevant advertising on the site&mdash;compared to other advertising-driven websites, the advertising on these forums is relatively low-key, and it\u2019s all highly relevant to folks preparing for the GMAT.\u00a0This unobtrusive advertising keeps those sites running.<\/p>\n<p>In many ways, the most valuable content is <i>given to you for free<\/i>.\u00a0Here\u2019s how this works:\u00a0Suppose that you, as a potential test taker, have an exam-related question, and you post your question on one of these GMAT forums \u2014 a question about math, verbal, the essay, the application process, business school, your career, etc. Then a slew of GMAT experts, from every GMAT prep company imaginable, will jump in to answer you.<\/p>\n<p>Why do we experts want to help?\u00a0Well, as teacher-types, we are disposed toward helping folks learn in general, but of course, all of us experts have the same ulterior motive.\u00a0We all think that we will offer the most fantastic help, and then you will conclude, \u201c<i>Gee, Mike offered me such a mind-blowingly wonderful answer to my question that I simply must <a href=\"https:\/\/gmat.magoosh.com\/plans\">sign up for Magoosh<\/a><\/i>!\u201d\u00a0By magnanimously offering impressive help and free resources, GMAT prep companies hope to garner new customers.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine being in a position in which experts from a dozen different GMAT prep companies are all competing to see who can be the most helpful to you, each answering your question and providing you with the information, support, &amp; strategies you need!\u00a0As a potential GMAT taker asking questions in the forum, you are in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Catbird_seat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the catbird seat<\/a>. Even if you ultimately decide to sign up with a particular GMAT prep source, the forums can still be an excellent resource to get open-ended support on everything GMAT-related.<\/p>\n<h2>Which GMAT forum should I use?<\/h2>\n<p>In the end, GMAT Club &amp; Beat the GMAT are both excellent resources. GMAT Club is more forum-oriented, while Beat the GMAT has an increased focus on blogposts and other study articles.
