Free GED Study Guides

As you prepare for the GED, it helps to have the right study guide at your fingertips. Choosing study materials are an important first step in successfully passing the GED. Our review links you to four of our favorite free GED study guides.

GED Testing Service

The GED Testing Service is the first place to visit for any GED resources. The free materials on this site are worth a look. However, be warned that not all materials on this site are free.

Create a MyGED account account to gain access to free resources, tutorials and testing guidelines. This is also the best place to take practice tests for each subject area. You can also take a computer skills tutorial to review how the GED test looks and feels.

Use the “study” tab at the top of your dashboard to view all of your options. While GED Testing Service does not supply typical study guides, it does provide an entire section outlining skills you need to pass the GED. Even more helpful, the section gives tips on how to improve your performance and progress by focusing on targeted skills.

Test Prep ToolKit

A practical tool for online studying, Test Prep’s website is a virtual GED study guide. In addition to practice tests, the site is full of tutorial videos and practice lessons for each subject test. Test Prep even offers online GED classes for free. Visit their fun Facebook page with daily GED tips and tricks!

Study Guide Zone

In addition to offering free practice tests for each content area, Study Guide Zone has a really nice printable study guide. The study guide links to online test resources, scholarship help and study tips.

Other than being free, the best part of this study guide is a list of problem-solving strategies for each content area. Study Guide Zone identifies common testing errors and recommends methods for overcoming those errors during your own test.

Union Test Prep

Although less visually appealing than the previous three, Union Test Prep does a decent job outlining the format of each subject test. Each content area has its own specific guide, which covers topics such as question types, subject matter and skills needed for testing success. Bonus: this guide gives examples for each concept on the study guide. (Especially helpful for math!)

Union Test Prep also gives you free access to practice tests, sets of flashcards and a GED FAQ section.

The sites listed above are some of our favorite free GED study guides. You can find many more great GED resources online, beginning with our Magoosh blogs!
