  3. The next step varies by the version: For example, in Excel 2010 and the earlier version, click on the design tab, then on the second button on your left, and then Save As a template. In the Excel 2013 format, right click on the chart and choose to save as a template.
  4. Now when you are all set to apply to it, click on the dialogue box launcher in the charts group under the insert tab option, and then choose the template or graph that you wish. In the 2013 version, you will have to click on the all the charts tab in order to see the templates. In 2010 and 2007 templates, it is the first entry on the left of your Excel book.
  5. You can also choose the change chart type button after creating an Excel graph template using different styles and you will find the template choice in the same place.
