If you were to clap for each syllable while you say these words, the diphthong would be part of just one clap. Let&#8217;s take a look a the commonly used &#8220;I diphthong, pronounced as\/a\u026a\/ in both <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/english-speaking\/tips-for-learning-the-american-accent\/\">American<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/magoosh.com\/english-speaking\/learn-how-to-speak-with-a-british-accent\/\">British English<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>How to produce \/a\u026a\/\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To make the \/a\u026a\/\u00a0 diphthong sound, you will need to know how to make the separate sounds of \/a\/ as in \u201c<em>start<\/em>\u201d and \u201c<em>arm<\/em>\u201d, and \/\u026a\/, as in \u201cfish\u201d and \u201cpin\u201d, shortly after each other. In a diphthong, the sound slides from the one sound, in this case the \/a\/ to the \/\u026a\/.
