The V<\/em> sound and how it\u2019s often confused<\/strong><\/h2>\n

For many learners of English, the v, b<\/em> and w<\/em> sounds prove difficult to distinguish.\u00a0 Let’s take a look at the v<\/em> vs. b<\/em> and w<\/em> sounds, and how they are each distinct.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

First, to produce the \/v\/ sound, the upper teeth should touch the lower lip and and vibrate.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  • For \/b\/, however, both<\/em> lips touch and close so that no air escapes until it’s followed by a vowel sound.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  • For \/w\/, the lips should be fully rounded and pushed forward. There is no contact between the upper teeth and the bottom lip.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
