James Bond was originally created by Ian Fleming in 1953 for a series of novels and short stories, but filmgoers first met James Bond in the 1962 film <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. No<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Scottish actor Sean Connery played James Bond, a <\/span><b><i>dashing <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">secret agent (spy) for the British Secret Service. Despite its low budget, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. No <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">was an immediate <\/span><b><i>hit<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, spawning a wave of \u201csecret agent\u201d films throughout the 1960s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>From Sean Connery to Roger Moore<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sean Connery <\/span><b><i>reprised<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> his role as James Bond in six subsequent films: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">From Russia With Love<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Goldfinger<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Thunderball<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You Only Live Twice<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Diamonds Are Forever, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Never Say Never Again<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Even though Connery decided to leave the series behind in the 1970s, fans couldn\u2019t get enough of the suave British agent. In 1969, George Lazenby played Bond in one film titled <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Her Majesty\u2019s Secret Service<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The role was later given to Roger Moore, who would have the longest streak as James Bond (7 films between 1973-1985).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>From Timothy Dalton to Daniel Craig<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Timothy Dalton took over the role in the mid-1980s for two additional films, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Living Daylights<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">License to Kill<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. In the 1990s, Pierce Brosnan provided his own interpretation of James Bond, filling the role for a total of four films. Finally, in 2006, Daniel Craig became the latest James Bond, starring in four films. His most recent film was <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spectre, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">which grossed nearly $900 million. His upcoming film, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No Time to Die<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, is set to be released in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>James Bond Parodies<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Even though James Bond is very popular, it also provides great material for <\/span><b><i>parody<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. In James Bond films, Bond is also known as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">007<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (pronounced \u201cdouble-oh seven\u201d). He often uses high-tech <\/span><b><i>gadgets<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, fights his way out of impossible situations, and faces outlandish (bizarre) villains. He also manages to have an affair with at least one beautiful woman in every film (these characters and actresses would come to be known as the \u201cBond Girls\u201d). As a result, movies like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Austin Powers<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Naked Gun<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Johnny English<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> have <\/span><b><i>poked fun<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at James Bond and the \u201csecret agent\u201d genre. However, they say that imitation is the sincerest form of <\/span><b><i>flattery<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>The Future of the Series<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While the James Bond series did not begin with a blockbuster, the movies became popular enough to allow for bigger budgets and larger marketing campaigns.
