Changes to the AUD CPA Exam in 2016

I hope you are ready for an exciting post today because we are talking about change. No, no we are not talking about changing your hairdo. Nor are we talking about calculus derivatives and rates of change. Instead, we are talking about Hannah Montana 🙂 That’s right Hannah Montana because today we get the best of both worlds. For all my avid Disney lovers, check out this clip when Hannah revealed herself to actually be Miley.

OMG! Who would have ever known? After that fateful day, our lives were changed, and then they were changed yet again with blurred lines and wrecking ball 🙂 At this point, you may wondering what does any of this have to with the announced changes to the AUD CPA Exam in 2016 for 2017. Well, you were able to handle the emotional change of Hannah Montana and twerking, and now you will be able to handle the emotional change of learning about the new and improved AUD section of the CPA Exam.

To save you the hassle of browsing through the Practice Analysis Final Report and the Exposure Draft: Maintaining the Relevance of the Uniform CPA Examination, I have compiled the key nuggets of relevant AUD information that will help you to be an astute CPA Exam candidate. Before diving in, let’s address some burning questions you may have. First, the new and improved CPA Exam is set to be released on April 1, 2017. Second, to pass the CPA Exam, you can have any combination of the four sections from the current or new and improved CPA Exam, so long as the sections are within the normal 18 month window. For example, you can have the current version of BEC and FAR and the new and improved version of AUD and REG. Lastly, there is not an expected cost increase in the cost of AUD. There is, however, an expected $20 increase in the cost of BEC and REG.

Announced Changes: Focus on Higher Order Skills

The new and improved CPA Exam will focus more on higher order skills than the current version does. The AICPA believes that this realigned focus on higher order skills will be more reflective of the types of tasks and activities performed by individuals new to the profession. The new and improved AUD section will emphasize the following skill levels.

AUD Skill Levels

Weight

Evaluation 5-15%
Analysis 15-25%
Application 30-40%
Remembering and Understanding 30-40%

Announced Changes: Updated Content Specification Outline and Skill Specification Outline
