Living on the west coast, I can honestly testify that the SAT is the most popular test at my school. I am always being told by countless students to throw away my ACT score and to take the SAT. It always strikes me as odd that not only is the SAT more popular where I live, but the ACT is almost looked down upon. Now this post isn’t about comparing the merits of either test (but if you are curious you can read more here), but it is interesting to see the difference in popularity of the tests according to location.
Nationally, more students take the ACT than the SAT.
I think it’s safe to assume that the popularity of the ACT in the midwest is linked to the tests origin in Iowa. As we can see, the popularity of the test is slowly increasing.
Don’t take a test just because it is popular with your peers or location. Take a test you feel you will excel in and are comfortable taking.
