Full length GRE Practice Tests

I’m very excited to announce that Magoosh now has full-length GRE practice tests. Previously, we provided instructions on how you could create your own mock tests for the GRE. Since then, our team has been hard at work making it easier for you to take a full-length practice test.

How do I access the GRE practice tests?

First, you need to be a paying member of our GRE prep product. Unfortunately, the tests only work with full Premium access which consists of Math and Verbal – they don’t work with a Math only or Verbal only plan.

Once you are logged into your Magoosh account, you’ll see a “Take a practice test” link on your Dashboard. I’ve highlighted the link in the image below:
Take a GRE practice test

After you click on the link you’ll see instructions. Note that our practice test does not include the writing section or the experimental section The test now includes the writing sections and the experimental section. However, the writing section will not be graded. On test day, you’ll face 2 writing tasks followed by 5 additional sections: 2 math, 2 verbal, and 1 math or verbal that is ungraded. Unfortunately, the 5 sections can appear in any order and you don’t know which one is the ungraded, experimental one. On the Magoosh test, you’ll face 4 sections: 2 math and 2 verbal in any order, but all are graded.

Are these new questions?

We’ve recently added over 100 questions to the Magoosh product, however the questions in the test are the same ones that you can access through regular practice or quizzes in Magoosh. When you take a practice test, we will first give you questions that you have not yet answered. However, if you have answered many of the questions in the product you may see some repeats. Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to create GRE-like questions and we want to make sure that Magoosh continues to provide you with the highest quality questions – so it’s not trivial for us to add more questions. But we are confident that we provide enough practice to help you improve your score, and that the questions you’ll see on Magoosh are some of the best GRE practice questions.

How many practice tests are there?

As I mentioned, we take questions from the existing product. Currently we have over 900 questions total, over 450 both Math and Verbal. Each of our practice tests consists 80 questions, 40 math and 40 verbal. So in theory, you could take 11 practice tests! However, we recommend taking at most 2-3 practice tests with Magoosh and using the other questions for quizzes and more targeted practice.

How accurate is the score estimate?

We’ve done our best to mimic the adaptive nature of the GRE and to provide accurate score estimates – they are based on past customers’ actual scores. However, we suggest using the score estimate as a general guideline of your performance rather than an actual score that you’ll receive on test day.

How do I review past tests?

If you would like to review a test that you have already taken, just click the “Take a practice test” link and in the bottom left of the next page you’ll see a button “See Past Results” from which you can review any of your past tests.

How much time is given for the practice test? Thanks!

    • Bhavin August 23, 2012 at 5:50 pm #

      Hi Tonya,

Happy to help! For math sections, you have to answer 20 questions in 35 minutes and for verbal questions you have to answer 20 questions in 30 minutes. There are 2 of each section, so that’s 2 hours and 10 minutes total. The actual test will have 1 experimental section (math or verbal) + two 30 minute writing sections, for a total of about 3 hours and 45 minutes.

How far the practice tests scores a good predictor for the actual GRE?

    • Bhavin August 16, 2012 at 3:54 pm #

Hi Sana – We believe they are fairly accurate, however we suggest using the score estimate as a general guideline on your performance rather than thinking of it as the actual score you’ll receive on test day. Our goal is to put our users through the experience of taking a long computer based test so that the actual GRE experience is a little better.

      Thanks!

Wish these were available to those of us only preparing for one half of the test — so we could see an estimated score for just verbal or quantitative performance. It would only add to how great Magoosh has been for my preparation.

    • Bhavin August 13, 2012 at 12:14 pm #

Hi Holly – Thanks for the feedback! We’ve found that fatigue plays a major part in test preparation and feel that our scores won’t be as accurate for students who would be skipping one section entirely – for that reason and several other more technical reasons we don’t offer the full length tests with score estimates to those who only use one section.

However, you can still set up a custom quiz that mimics the test experience for your section. This article shares more information on how to do that (http://magoosh.com/gre/2011/mock-tests-for-the-new-gre/) And we do provide an estimated score range on your Dashboard based on your overall performance.

I know that’s not a perfect solution, but I hope it helps.

      Thanks!

Hi Manu – Yes, the 30-day plan does include full length tests. I hope that helps!

    Hi Bhavin,

I am a premium member for last 1 month and have already given 3 such tests some until one week back.

Are the tests which you have mentioned above, somewhat different/new addition or just the same as earlier once?

    • Bhavin August 8, 2012 at 1:03 pm #

Hi Shubham – Great question! These are the same tests, you received early access :) We’ve finally released them to all of our customers!

    Hi

I have recently enrolled in magoosh and I am really impressed by the way you people design questions and most important the indigenous way of explaining the questions.
I really helped a lot in bolstering my confidence.

    Thanks Magoosh.

    • Bhavin August 7, 2012 at 12:20 pm #

Hi Lav – Thanks! We try our best to really think about the student’s experience. Let us know if you ever have feedback. We may not be able to incorporate it all, but we do carefully consider all feedback. Thanks again!
