Say Hello to 7 Tepees

At Magoosh, one of our defining core values is Wow > Profit, and we take it very seriously! We truly want to give our customers the best service and help each other out as best as we can.

In 2013, we took this value to the next level by partnering with education non-profits and offering them our Magoosh SAT product for free. That means a select number of non-profit orgs got to provide an unlimited number of high schoolers with high quality SAT prep at no cost.

We recently checked in with these orgs to see how they’re doing, and they got back to us with lots of interesting and inspiring finds. So, we thought we’d introduce you to some of them and share what they had to say about Magoosh :).

First up is bay area native, 7 Tepees. This org is located right in San Francisco and they’re dedicated to serving inner city youth. To reach that goal, they work with each student in the program for about 7 years at a time. Each student learns “the building blocks that will help them create positive, successful futures“. 7 Tepees helps each student to develop “social competency, academic skills, healthy self-esteem, exposure to new options, and increased understanding and appreciation of their natural environment” (You can find all this info and more on their website at http://www.7tepees.org).

This video will also give you a better flavor of what 7 Tepees is all about:

Whew! That’s some pretty inspiring work you’re doing there, 7 Tepees!

Lastly, we talked to Amie Tat, the College Success Coordinator at 7 Tepees, about how exactly they’ve been using Magoosh. Here’s what she had to say:

“During the fall 2013 semester, Magoosh generously donated SAT preparation accounts to the youth at the Seven Tepees Learning Center. Additionally, this incredible resource was extended to the students at John O’Connell High School and the International Studies Academy where Seven Tepees College & Career Programs are housed.  Seven Tepees seniors utilized Magoosh to prepare for their final SAT exams and found the program to be interactive and personalized to their individual needs. By the end of the semester, our youth saw an improvement in their scores which increased their chances for college admissions. On January 16, 2014, Seven Tepees will host a college workshop and introduce Magoosh to our 9-11th graders and their families. Furthermore, youth will continue to utilize Magoosh throughout the remainder of the academic year as they prepare for upcoming SAT test dates.”
